Chinese Culture Program

Our Chinese Culture Program is a unique program for 1st to 5th grade students who are interested in learning both Mandarin and Chinese culture. We teach Chinese language and culture through traditional Chinese stories, making arts and crafts (often inspired by Chinese zodiac animals), and learning Chinese traditional writing, known as ‘Maobi’. As this program is designed for more advanced students, we also teach intensive pronunciation and practice conversational skills frequently in order to fine-tune their ability.

Advanced and intermediate students use the New York State Mandarin conversation textbook, which provides topics for students practice their speaking skills with.

Advanced- and high-intermediate students get an opportunity to apply their language skills in a way that is unique to our program: they have the option of functioning as in-class teaching assistants.  In this role, they use the Mandarin skills they have gained to guide and coach the intermediate- and beginner-level students through in-class activities.  They do this under the guidance of the primary classroom teachers.
